She has kneeled before him deeply ashamed and asking for forgiveness catching Barry completely off guard. She has told him how much she regrets smoking if that ever bothered him. - “I’ll do anything you ask me. I’ll quit immediately if this is your desire” Barry, finding hard to believe his eyes is at a lack of words. - “Baby, why are you…? - “Please forgive me if my smoking or drinking bothered you! Understand I’ve been on my own ever since I can remember and I don’t know how to live with someone else by my side! I’ve never had to ask anybody for anything and…” - “Pearl, baby, wait!! Why are you saying all this?” Barry takes his hand to caress her and comfort her. She feels his touch and immediately goes to kiss his fingers. - “I’ll do anything you ask me to. I don’t care, I’ll be a good girl from now on. All you have to do is ask and I’ll do it” - “Pearl, darling…” She keeps sucking his finger. He pulls his hand out and gently caresses her cheek. - “Baby, what is going on?? Why are you acting so strange??” Pearl’s eyes start to water. - “I have this… fear… inside, that I’m about to loose you. Pearl, baby I’m not going anywhere!! I’m here!! I love you, I’m not gonna…” - “It’s embarrassing to me now to even think of all those times I kissed you with my whisky breath” - “I LOVE YOUR WHISKEY BREATH!! Are you kidding me?? Please don’t. . . Baby, please get up. I don’t like seeing you like…” - “Oh Barry I love you so much!!” Pearl launches her arms around Barry’s waist and hugs him. “I don’t want to do anything that will drive you away from me!!” Barry has never seen her before like this. - “Pearl, you are a wonderful girlfriend!! You are more than I could ever dream of!! You are PERFECT TO ME! You hear me?? YOU ARE PERFECT!! I wouldn’t want you to change ANY-THING for me. I love you just the way you are!” - “I’ll be a good girl from now on, I won’t drink and I won’t smoke” - “No, no, no!! You are perfect the way you are!! Come here! Come here!” Barry hugs her tight. Pearl keeps sobbing in his chest. - “I love your whiskey kisses!” - “You do?” - “I do, I really do! I know how stressful your job is and I know that helps you to get the edge off. I understand everything that you go through everyday and I can understand the need of a stiff drink after work. There is nothing to be ashamed of” - “It’s just that you don’t smoke and -- I know you have never said anything about it, you have never complained but I don’t want you to leave me be because of it” - “Oh, Pearl, it would take a thousand armies to pull me an inch away from you!! I have loved you from the very first moment I saw you. To have you taken me into your life is beyond what I EVER dreamed of. It is I who should be kneeling” - “Oh, Barry, I AM THE LUCKY ONE!!! To have an honest, decent man like you taking in a girl like me, a girl born in a brothel” - “I would be a really stupid ass if I ever let you go! Oh, and to prove how much I care . . . here . . . take a look at what I got you for dinner. . . I got your favorite spring rolls from Nom Wah. Knowing you I’m sure you haven’t eaten anything. You must be starving!” - “Yes, I guess I am kinda hungry” - “I know you and you often forget to eat” She laughs. - “Yes, I tend to forget things like that” Smiles. - “I brought you double because I know how much you like them. Come to the kitchen, quick! They are still warm!” - Pearl looks at Barry with loving eyes and says: “Thank you, you make me feel special” They have a pleasant meal talking and enjoying the food. Having spoken her mind and now eating and laughing, Pearl forgets the dreams and nightmares that have been haunting her lately. Knowing how much Barry really cares for her starts bringing a light sense of relief. Time flies by and they have finished their dinner. - “Oh, shoot!!
