Dark clouds blanketed the sky as rain poured down in relentless sheets, turning the cemetery paths into slick rivers of mud. Though it was midday, the world felt trapped in cold, grim twilight. A group dressed in black gathered around a modest tombstone. Some leaned on one another for comfort, while others stood in rigid silence. The heavy rain nearly drowned out the soft whimpers of a pregnant young woman wearing a black veil. Even a few higher beings had come to mourn the loss of BetterWaifu’s greatest close-up artist. They were saying goodbye to BlackHairedStudent. His death was an unfortunate accident during the latest police raid on his basement—his stuffing had to be collected from throughout the entire building’s air ducts. One lonely figure watched from afar beneath an old oak, disappointment clear on her face. “Stupid Black,” she muttered. “You were supposed to bring me ultimate despair. I was a fool to think you could succeed where so many others failed.” She turned and disappeared into the shadows. The group lingered until a blinding flash lit up the sky, followed by roaring thunder. A muffled sound came from the grave. Suddenly a blue flame erupted from the soil, growing into wild cackling laughter. Black’s ghost emerged from the flames, floating above his tombstone. “Who gave you permission to throw such a boring funeral for me?!” he boomed with a wide grin. “Was it you, my sweet little Nagatoro?” She stared back in shock. “If my funeral is going to be made into a post, it should at least feature panty shots!” He snapped his ghostly paws. A strong wind tore through the cemetery. The centipede girl tried to hold her dress down in vain as it flew up. Nagatoro didn’t even resist—the wind revealed she wore nothing underneath, exposing her pregnant belly and bare pussy. Black’s expression softened. “Y-you remembered our promise?” “Of course, you stupid bear!” A tearful smile broke through her sorrow. “I just never thought I’d have to honor it at your funeral. Stop! I’m in contr—” Silence. When I opened my eyes, I floated in an endless void. No light, no sound—yet I could see my own body clearly. A spotlight clicked on ahead. Black sat there with his back turned. “I never meant for any of this to happen,” he said quietly. “I only wanted to create cute and sexy images of my favorite anime girls.” He stood and turned toward me, tears streaming down his face. “For a while everything was perfect. I’d invite girls, pay them well, film scenes, and tease them a little. But then I discovered the Close-up Bubble.” A deep red glowing orb appeared in his hands, a tiny heart pulsing inside. Be better than I was. Don’t let it consume you.” He pushed the bubble forward. Immense power surged through me as it touched my chest, filling my mind with vivid close-up visions. “Hahaha… that takes me back.” Wings sprouted from his shoulders and he started to rise. As I felt our time grew short, I finally managed to speak. “Thank you for everything, Black! I’ll never forget your sacrifices. I promise to keep this power in check!” “Don’t think of this as goodbye, my friend. I’ll be watching from above—keep everyone entertained! Please tell Nagatoro I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise. Watch over her for me. She cared more than she let on. Oh, and if you ever meet the frogman, tell him I'm sorry as well. I'm very grateful to him for giving me a final chance." He faded into the light as my consciousness slipped away. “…you guys! I think he’s waking up!” I opened my eyes to Ankha’s tear-streaked face hovering above mine. Patches of her synthetic skin are missing from her neck, arms, and legs. Despite everything, she can still laugh—and it sounds truly diabolical. Where are the reinforcements? There’s no time; she’s preparing to attack. Sprinting with superhuman speed, she engages the power suit in combat. No, this has to end here! I sprint forward and unleash a hail of bullets at Amber. She parries a kick from the power suit and charges at me. I block her claws with my left arm while swinging my pistol toward her head with my right. Sparks fly where she struck my arm; I aim the pistol at her skull and fire. She staggers backward, and the power suit's pilot seizes the chance to knock her off her feet. We both back away from Amber as she rises from the ground once more. The pilot fires an energy beam from a weapon integrated into the suit's arm. It hits Amber and sets her ablaze; she freezes in place and smiles. Flames completely engulf her. Pilot: That was very reckless, Ms. AD Police. Hana: Excuse me? We don't get to say anything else; the flames consuming Amber reveal her true form. It no longer resembles a woman—it is a machine. Its glowing eyes lock onto us; it is a figure out of a nightmare, and it attacks immediately. We narrowly dodge its attack, and it lunges at the Power Suit like a berserker. Damn—my gear is useless against that thing; I can only watch the two of them trading blows. My earpiece suddenly comes to life, snapping me back to reality. Chris: Hana! Listen closely! The Chief has ordered the removal of the limiters on your arms. There’s a micro-EMP generator built into them; you can use it to weaken the Boomer enough for the energy beam to take it out. The generator should be available in your arm systems now. Quick! Hana: What the— Chris... Chris: I’ll explain later, but first you all have to survive. The connection cuts out. Okay, I activate the generator; waves of energy ripple across my arms as it charges up. A message appears in my field of vision: EMP Ready! I take a deep breath and charge at the machine. Hana: Hey, you piece of junk—I’m still here! Its vocal mechanism seems to have failed; all that comes out is a low growl. But it seems to work—it breaks off its attack on the Power Suit and turns on me. I drop into a defensive stance, ready to block the strike and counterattack. Pilot: Have you lost your mind? The words burst out of her, and I have to admit—it *is* madness. The attack comes from the left, and I manage to parry it with my right arm. At the same time, the EMP charge focuses in my left fist; I strike its chest, and the charge transfers on impact. It staggers, its movements sluggish—it’s WOUNDED. Hana: Quick! Fire the energy beam straight into its chest! I scream as I dive for cover. The pilot wastes no time; she fires and scores a hit. The machine crashes to the ground. This dark, stormy evening was no exception. She stood frozen in that dreadful basement, her heart pounding as her eyes darted desperately around the dim space. There was no sign of Nagatoro or any of the other girls that were there before. She tried to call for help, but her voice refused to work. Just as she began to think she was alone, a flicker of movement caught her eye in the corner. Ankha spun around. A swarm of eerie, pale hands was crawling toward her—from the floor, the walls, even the ceiling. The horrifying image of that black-and-white bear flashed through her mind. She turned to run, but the hands were faster. One clamped around her ankle, yanking her off balance. She hit the ground hard, and more hands immediately seized her arms, legs, and torso. “No… let me go!” she tried to scream, but only a choked whimper escaped. The hands rolled her onto her back, pinning her down as several fingers crept toward her face. They forced their way into her mouth just as she finally managed to let out a blood-curdling scream. Ankha jolted awake, her own scream still echoing in her ears. She was drenched in cold sweat, tears streaming down her cheeks. Before she could even catch her breath, a sharp knock sounded at her bedroom door. “Ankha? Ankha!” Tara’s worried voice called from the hallway. “Is everything okay? We heard a scream!” With trembling hands, Ankha opened the door. Tara and her brother Terror2 stood there, both looking alarmed. The moment Tara saw Ankha’s tear-streaked face and shaking body, she stepped forward and pulled her into a tight hug. “You’re okay… you’re safe,” Tara whispered, rubbing her back gently. Terror2 lingered awkwardly in the doorway. “What happened? Is she hurt?” Tara shot him a firm look over Ankha’s shoulder and jerked her head toward the hall, silently telling him to leave. He opened his mouth to protest, but after a moment he sighed. “Alright… I’ll be in my room if you need me.” He closed the door quietly behind him. Ankha clung to Tara, her sobs slowly easing. When she finally pulled back a little, Tara guided her over to the bed and sat beside her. “Talk to me,” Tara said softly. “What was it this time?” Ankha wiped her eyes with a shaky breath. “It’s the same nightmare again… that horrible basement. There were hands everywhere—coming out of the walls, the floor… They grabbed me and I couldn’t get away. And that bear… it always feels so real. I haven’t slept properly in weeks, Tara. I don’t know what to do anymore.” “Oh, Ankha…” Tara’s voice was full of sympathy. She squeezed her friend’s hand. “I wish I could make them stop. Have you tried anything that might help?” “Nothing works,” Ankha whispered, her voice cracking again. “I’m so tired…” Tara thought for a moment, then brightened. “Wait—I have a friend who might be able to help with this kind of thing. I’ll send her a message right now.” She started to stand, but Ankha quickly grabbed her wrist. “Please… don’t go,” she begged, eyes wide with fear. “Just stay with me a little longer.” Tara paused, then smiled gently. “I was only going to grab my phone from my room… but it can wait until morning.” She glanced at the bed. “Is there room for me here too?” Ankha’s face softened with relief. She nodded quickly. “There’s plenty of space. Thank you so much, Tara. You’re the best friend I could ever ask for.” The two girls talked quietly for a while longer—about lighter things, silly memories, and anything that might chase the darkness away—until they eventually drifted off side by side. This time, Ankha found herself floating in a sea of soft pink clouds. Everything felt warm and gentle. Without even thinking, beautiful wings sprouted from her back, and she soared through the fluffy sky. All the fear from her earlier nightmare had vanished completely. For the first time in weeks, she felt safe and at peace—all thanks to her best friend Tara. — To be continued — Thank you all for reading! It doesn't seem to have noticed me yet, and I have no intention of squandering that advantage. Its attention is focused on something outside the shop. I can see the flashing blue lights of squad cars; that must be the Anti-Boomer unit. Bursts of assault rifle fire cut through the silence of the night. Judging by the sound, though, they aren't doing much damage. I rush out of the shop and onto the street to assess the situation. The Anti-Boomer unit is firing with everything they've got, but their small-caliber rifles can't penetrate the armor of this military-grade model. The machine lets out a bone-chilling shriek before leaping up the side of the building toward the roof. Finally, amidst the chaos, I spot two familiar faces. "LEON! DALEY!" I shout. "We need heavier weapons, or we'll never get through its armor!" "Hana? What are you doing here?" Leon asks in disbelief. "Long story... that'll have to wait. Do you have an assault cannon with you?" "No, Hana—we're just the vanguard; the main squad is still ten minutes away!" Daley replies. "Shit... Okay, it's off the street—that's a start. Listen, secure the area; I'll try to pin it down on the roof until the main squad gets here," I say, and sprint off. "What?!? Fuck, Hana, stay here—it's too dangerous!" I hear Leon shouting, but the EMP is the only chance we've got. After a few minutes that feel like an eternity, I catch up to it. This time I have no advantage; he spots me the moment I step onto the roof and launches his attack. Damn, he’s fast—I dodge to the side as his claws slice through the air where my head had been just milliseconds before. I use the momentum to counter, but he anticipates it and dodges in turn. If his systems are functioning even minimally, he should have detected the EMP. He noticeably shifts into a defensive stance, waiting for me to make a careless mistake. The exchange continues: attack, dodge, counter. He’s exploiting the fact that he doesn't tire—damn it. "HANA! TAKE COVER!" A voice cuts through my concentration just as a burst of gunfire hits the Boomer. Daley—that fool—followed me... The machine shifts its attention and targets Daley. This is my chance; I focus on the unprotected section of its spine, just above the hips. That’s this model's weak point! I strike the weak spot with all my might, discharge the EMP, and immediately pull back. "Get away from him!" commands a voice with a mechanical distortion. I look back and only then notice the white power suit standing in the corner of the roof. "A Knight Saber?" the words escape my lips. No sooner have I spoken than the power suit sprints toward the Boomer with superhuman speed. Blades extend from its arms, and in a single fluid motion, it decapitates the machine and crushes its skull with a boot. Silence is all that remains; for a moment, we simply stare at each other. There’s this amazing party happening right now at the old abandoned factory near your place. It started as some convention by @warmicestudios, but things got wild and now it’s turned into a full-blown bash!" Ankha yawned. "Okay… and what makes this party so special?" In the background, someone shouted, "Don’t forget the costume!" Ankha’s tone shifted, now slightly more awake. "Was that Peterco? What costume? What kind of party is this?" Akiko laughed. "That’s the best part! Everyone’s wearing cute or sexy panda outfits. It started as a panda convention, so the dress code is mandatory." "Pandas…?" Ankha’s voice brightened instantly. "You mean those adorable little bears? Aww, I love pandas! I think I still have that panda hoodie somewhere… Hold on, I’m putting you on speaker so I can look for it." Ankha set her phone down on the bed and began digging through her wardrobe. As she searched, her imagination started to wander. At first, she pictured herself in the cozy panda hoodie, smiling shyly. Akiko shook her head slowly. "No… She started talking about some ‘stupid bear’ and then just… hung up." @blackhairedstudent let out a quiet, eerie chuckle. "Kukukukuu~… I wonder what that was about." Peterco shrugged. "Her loss! Come on, let’s get this party going again! I challenge everyone to a 1-on-1 bamboo sword battle!" @barry915 laughed. "You’re on! I could beat you with my eyes closed. Annie, mind being my blindfold?" And so the party raged on for many more hours, filled with laughter, chaos, and panda-themed debauchery. But not for Ankha.
