— Story time —

Tara finally got hold of her old friend, who might be able to help with Ankha’s nightmares. She lives far away, but she offered them to stay at her dorm room for the weekend once exams were finished.

“Hey, Ankha—wake up. We’re almost there.”

Ankha stirred in the passenger seat and blinked at the coastal city spreading across the horizon.

“Whoa. She lives THERE? Why have we never visited?”

“Because it took ten hours,” Tara said, voice teasing. “Not that you noticed. You were dead to the world the whole way.”

“Sorry. First decent sleep I’ve had in weeks. Credit to your driving, I guess.”

Just before they reached the city limits the car's navigation started acting up.

“Connection lost? Great. Please help me look, Ankha. She said the academy has a huge clock tower.”

After more than an hour of circling, they finally spotted it. They parked and walked toward the imposing building, stopping under the carved sign.

“College of the Magical Arts,” Ankha read. “That explains why you never told me what she studies. You sure this is a good idea?”

“No turning back now.”

Inside they found a vast library hall. Ankha looked around, disappointed.

“I expected something more… magical? This just looks like a regular library.”

Tara ignored the comment and asked for directions to the dorms. Soon they stood in front of a red door marked 'R. Caldwell'.

Tara knocked. The door drifted open. “Runie? We’re here!”

No answer. They stepped inside. Shelves full of glass bottles with brightly colored liquids lined the walls.

“Are all of these magic potions?” Ankha whispered.

“Don’t touch anything. We have no idea what they do.”

Ankha wandered anyway—until a small green slime bounced into view on a desk.

“Tara, look! He’s adorable!” She poked it gently. The slime jiggled happily.

“I JUST said don’t touch anything! It could be dangerous!”

“Dangerous? This cutey?” Ankha kept poking.

“Maybe we should leave a note and come back later.”

As Tara reached for a pen, the door creaked again. A girl in a purple witch outfit stood in the doorway.

“RUNIE!”

“TARA!”

They collided in a tight hug.

“How were exams?”

“Mostly fine—I’ll explain later. You’re over an hour late. I thought you’d gotten lost inside the acadamy, so I went looking.”

“My navigation died the second we hit the city. We had to find this place the hard way.”

“That tracks. Tech’s been acting weird lately. Something in the air, maybe.” Runie turned to Ankha with a bright smile. “And you must be Ankha. Nice to meet you! I see you’ve already made friends with Gooey. He’s usually shy around strangers.”

“Hi, Runie. Thanks for having us. So the little guy's name is Gooey, huh?”

At the sound of his name the slime launched itself off the desk. Ankha yelped, stumbled backward, and crashed into a shelf. A purple bottle tipped and poured its contents over her.

Purple smoke exploded outward. When it cleared, Ankha’s ears and tail were gone. Her fur had vanished. She stared at her suddenly smooth, human hands in horror.

“What—where are my ears? My tail? My FUR?”

Runie clapped a hand over her mouth. “Don’t panic! I have a reverse potion somewhere—Oh, why don’t I ever label these?” She scrambled through bottles. “Orange? No, that's for underwater breathing… Maybe this white one?" She snifs at the bottle and her face quickly sours. "Nope! That's the milk I forgot to finish last week—ugh—aha!” She grabbed a round yellow flask and spun around.

As she started to walk over to Ankha, her foot caught the carpet and she pitched forward. The bottle flew from her hand and smashed square in Tara’s face.

Yellow smoke bloomed. When it faded, Tara stood transformed into a full lioness-girl—mane, tail, claws, and all.

Ankha took one look and burst into helpless laughter, tears streaming down her face. “It even took your clothes! That expression when the bottle hit your face was priceless!”

Tara’s ears flattened. She turned to Runie, who was still searching the floor for her glasses.

“Runie, are any of these potions dangerous?”

“N-no! We’re not allowed to keep harmful ones in the dorms, but—”

“That's all I needed to know.”

Tara seized an open red potion and flung it at Ankha. Red smoke erupted. Ankha emerged as a scarlet demongirl. And now her clothes were gone too.

“Hey! That was on purpose!”

“You think? Not so funny now, is it?” Tara grabbed another bottle and dumped it over herself. Blue smoke swirled; she became a sleek water sprite.

The two of them stalked toward each other, already arguing about whose fault the whole mess was. Runie finally found her glasses, stood up, and surveyed the chaos of the spilled potions, and the two furious, transformed girls in the middle of her dorm room.

She let out a long, weary sigh. This wasn't how she'd envisioned reuniting with her dear friend after such a long time...

Madame Li has striped Detective Pearl not only of her clothes but of her dignity as well. She is taking her clothes off, too. She wears nothing but a very elegant, very expensive gold lace panty.

- “The world knows about me only what I’ve let them to believe. I have never told this story before, never. Probably because I was too embarrassed to admit it, probably because I wanted to feel important when talking about me, but…my story is FAR from perfect.
- “Why tell it to me… why now?” Asks Pearl.
- “When I’m done telling you my story, you will understand”

Madame Li leans back, drops the gaze and inhales deeply, as someone who is about to take a deep dive.
- “I was born in a little village far from any big city in China. My mother died when I was very little so I have no memories of her. I was raised by my father who taught me everything he knew about martial arts and life. He was a single father and a well respected leader of the community, so the only way he knew of raising me was through martial arts and discipline”
- “There is no training the body without training the mind!!” He used to say.
- “Get up on those books and read to me. Keep your balance AND DON’T DROP THE WATER!!!!!” Madame Li laughs.
- “Those were his favorite words for me: Higher! Faster! Higher! Faster! — AGAIN!!”
- “I never though he was being to harsh, I knew he was preparing me.
- “I told the whole village I was gonna be the greatest warrior who ever lived. I told them they were looking at a legend (smiles) they all laughed and cheered me up. (Li takes a pause) “This little skinny girl… I’ll show them all” I thought.

Detective Pearl has been listening closely. Li is lost in her memories.
- “My village was very prosperous town. Soil was rich and the people were hard working folk. And like many places like that, mean people took advantage of all the riches the land has to offer. A group of ill-intentioned people were abusing the town, sucking on the people’s labor for their own benefit. My father was a big leader in the community and was fighting against them”
- “One night, they broke into the house, I heard muffled voices and sounds, a struggle. I was scared. Then silence again. After a while I decided to go to my father’s room. (A pause) And that was the last time I saw him. Or... what was left of him, inside a basket, with a note to the people of the town”

After a week of marching the Captain and his small army that set out in the quest to bring back Lady Maria, had arrived in the capital of the country, a big thriving city. Here they would need to visit the Grand Cathedral, known as the Temple of Passion, to attain an anointed Holy Symbol of the Archangel of Passion, that would work as a conduit for the ritual to open the gateway that would connect to the world Lady Maria ended up to. Maria and her dear friend, the Captain, as well as their men and women working for them, have been disciples of this faith dedicated to the Archangel of Passion, one of the primary patron deities of their world. In the Temple they would need to converse with the High Priestess, explain the situation and persuade her to give the anointed symbol.

And so they entered the Cathedral, bowing in reverence and praying, before meeting the High Priestess, a woman with covered, veiled face and uncovered breasts. The Captain knelt before her and started explaining what have happened in detail. The Priestess heard him and they talked a bit about how this was an issue all over, people falling into portals, ending who knows where, all because of this abomination, the Psionic Horror, that lied in a far away continent. She explained to the Captain and his men, who were there kneeling as well, that to anoint a Holy Symbol of the Archangel of Passion, they would need to do two things.

The first would be a physical act of passion, to give all their love and sperm to the High Priestess's body. The second would be a spiritual thing. Before, during and after the sexual ritual, they would be measured by the divine essence of the Archangel, permeating within the temple, whether their love and dedication to Lady Maria was true. Did they truly care for her, did they love her or where they simply driven by simplistic craving of flesh? Was there true passion or only carnal desire? To succeed in the anointment they would need to be true.

They all remained silent, contemplating the Priestess words. But there was no hesitation, they loved Maria and they knew that she loved them, each and every one of her men and women, that have spent day after day, for years, enjoying each others body and desires. The Captain focused every thought and feeling he had for Maria and he felt his dick getting hard. "Your feelings are truthful. You will succeed. You will smite the darkness and bring back your love. My Light will guide you. Go forth, my Knight of Passion."

The Captain looked up at her with respect but before he could say or think anything else a flash of blinding light washed over everyone, knocking them down. When they stood up everything was back to normal, the Priestess was back again and bowed to them. As they all stood up they felt power surging through them. The priestess presented to the Captain a golden symbol carved with a heart with 4 wings, 2 on each side, telling him that they had what they needed to continue their quest.

The Captain, his eyes having a radiant golden glow, held tight the symbol, thinking about Maria. They would move out the next morning, for the next task.

They now had the blessings of the Archangel of Passion.'
