It is found in a place called "the Inkwell", a large pit or a well at the heart of a crystal mountain. Said to have been used in the making of the world of Storia and the Great Story, the ink was put on the white space of the world and was shaped into letters and meaning. Letters became words. Words became lines. Lines became chapters. And eventually, a story was written. The ink a powerful a substance that can be used to change a story or even make a new one. It is a very valuable substance that has to be held with great care and responsibility. Ink exists in all things, making up the core essence and narrative identity of all things as stories. All stories have some level of influence and even power on the world around them, though most are too weak or small to have any effect. But they are an important part of one's identity and sense of self. However, the ink is also dangerous if mishandled, as any character that comes into direct contact with the primordial ink runs the risk of blotting a part of their story. The order that is harvesting the ink from the Inkwell are known as the Whitehands — named for their all white clothing. In order to prevent a serious staining by the ink, they wear all white so as to notice the stains quickly. Additionally, they are all light or paled skinned and have hair colors that are bright, all to detect and spot any stains if they have any. This of course had caused a divide and prejudice by the Whitehands against other groups of people that did not fit into the requirements, while others have viewed the dark skinned people as blessed by the ink and the narritive. But that is a story for another time. Inkblight can cause narritive gaps in their story, which if severe enough can result in the lose of memory, confusion, losing parts of one's identity, and the loss of the self. This is not an uncommon condition among the Whitehands, and one or two can be spotted in any group. Those that have learned how to handle, use, and apply the ink safely are known as Scribes, with a large group of them known as the Order of Scribes. The scribes are professionals who are capable of reading a story of something directly and apply the ink at the right layers without causing more damage. They are the ones most capable of treating Inkblight, changing details in a story, or creating a new one. The scribes restore stained stories by relying on previous records of their story and being, retellings of their story, in order to fill or add to the lacunae properly. Scribes have to make sure their work does not cause more narritive gaps in the story either, as it can again cause some confusion, sometimes forced to add details about their own connection to how the restoration was done to create coherence in the story. But, it's not a perfect solution. Their restoration cannot restore what was implied or unsaid between the lines. They cannot restore any information that wasn't told in their story or mentioned. Not all details about someone are said outright, but are infered. Not all moments about their lives are recorded, and only portions of them is, whatever was necessary for the Narrative of the story. The worse the staining and the Inkblight, the harder it is to restore it to what it was before. Unfortunately, some stories are too ruined to be restored in the same way. And such cases, eventually, a scribe isn't restoring a person anymore. They use records, testimony, journals, legends, and surviving passages to write a story about someone who should plausibly be that person. They become constructed from the story of themselves rather than the self that produced their story. Such people are referred by scribes as Textbound — somebody restored so extensively that they can no longer meaningfully exist beyond their documented narrative. Their personality, memories, and identity are largely reconstructed from surviving text and testimony. They are bound to what was written about them.'

Up close, she looks even frailer. Weak and soft, no muscle to speak of. The vines however seem thick and full of life. She wouldn’t stand a chance without your help. It takes some effort, but you manage to untangle her legs. The vines are slick and hard to grab, which makes you wonder how they manage to cling so tightly to the fairy’s body. But there’s no time to wonder as it takes constant effort to keep the vines from re-wrapping themselves around her. You pull the fairy to her legs and help her stand. Her cries for help have stopped. She seems to be in shock, unresponsive and wide-eyed. You try to reassure her that you will free her. She nods weakly and you resume your efforts. But the vines that entangle her torso are wrapped even more tightly. They squeeze her chest with such force that you wonder how she can breathe. It’s a miracle she could cry for help at all. You pull her closer to try and free her hands. “Help me!” She exclaims weakly, the same as she had before. You try to reassure her again, but she just repeats her cry for help. Repeats it a little too closely. The fairy is close to you now. Close enough that you could kiss her. Her eyes stare back up into yours. There was light in them, but it was… wrong, somehow. Then the light in her eyes shifted, like water sloshing in a tube. Her head tilted limply, her eyes taking on the likeness of dull empty glass vessels. Her mouth formed into a smile, almost, but it wasn’t a real smile. It was simply her face loosing its animating force and the skin going slack. Your shock fades quickly and you try to turn and leave only to find your legs hopelessly entangled in the vines. You try to pull them off, but they are much, much stronger now. They are no longer slick, but they cling to your clothing like glue. The vines climb your body eagerly, not strangling you, but holding you perfectly still, bound up like a straight jacket. You can only watch as plants emerge from the fairy’s lifeless body. Flowers poking through her mouth and her eye socket like they are watching you closely. The vines lift her off the ground as a vicious yellow slime begins to drip from her mouth. It smells like honey, but the vapors singe your nostrils and your throat like acid. The vines do not relent. They squeeze and twist the fairy’s body like juicing a fruit. More and more of the honey like acid pools near your feet and it writhes with life. You realize, now far too late, that the slime is the real creature and you have fallen prey to its hunting tactic. “I warned you, didn’t l?” The lady’s voice said from behind you. It takes all your effort to twist far enough around to look at her. Her voice had filled you with sudden hope. Was she here to save you? It took only a single look at the expression on her face to know the answer. The lady looked back at you with disappointment. No, something more than that. Her eyes seemed to glow in the dark and her frown was so deep and stern that it seemed to cut through to your soul. “You got my hopes up, really. I told you that you were wise for not trusting appearances. I told you that these Woods were hungry. And yet you walk into a trap regardless .” You try to ask for help, but if anything her expression somehow worsens. “I will not deprive the Woods of its food. We understand each other, the Woods and I. We have an accord. You could have been a part of that. But it seems you are fit only to join the Woods in a more primal way.” You try to plea, to argue your case. But she doesn’t speak another word. Nor does she leave you. For better or worse, she stays by your side watching until the vines strangle you and the slime melts your down to your bones. < Ending B - Part of the Food Chain >'
