Part 1

The woods were eerily silent today. This hike was normally peaceful. But the silence unsettled you just a bit and as you pondered the reasons why it occurred to you that you were lost.

The path before you was unfamiliar, but so was the path behind you. It should have been impossible, you are certain you never made a turn or approached a fork in the trail. In fact, you hiked this trail because it was a simple loop, impossible to lose your way on.

And yet, you had no idea where you were. All you could do was wander. It seemed like hours of silent walking. But then, the silence broke. A soft and warm tone caressed your ears. A voice. A woman was singing from somewhere in the woods. Somewhere off the trail.

You couldn’t understand the words, but somehow you felt like you understood the meaning anyway. It was an invitation.

Entranced, you stumbled your way off the trail and into the undergrowth. Thorns and branches poked and claws at your skin, but as you followed the song the path opened up before you into a peaceful and sunny meadow. And there, seated upon a rock, was the singer.

She noticed you as soon as you exited the woods. The singing stopped and you felt a bang of regret. It was your fault that it stopped, and you would have preferred it to go on forever.

But with the song no longer pulling you forward, your feet were suddenly frozen under the weight of the enchanting woman’s stare,

“Come, let me take a look at you.” She said.

You approach without consciously telling your legs to move. It seemed unwise to refuse her. Something on a subconscious level told you so.

“I see,” she said after staring for several long, silent, moments. “You are here for this, yes”

She produced a strange flower with a flash of strange magic.

“This flower will cure any illness. A single sip from its nectar promises a long and happy life.” Her smile had shifted subtly. There was something concerning in her eyes. It was as if she were unhappy with whatever she had seen in your eyes.

“You can have a sip, if that’s what you want.”
