Apprentice Sorceress Screw-Up
Theodora sat near what used to be her cozy little home in the north woods. The cozy little home was now a smoking, smoldering ruin. The volunteer fire department had been summoned; all they could do was make sure the fire was contained. One of the firefighters had given Theodora a blanket, which she used to cover her naked body (she gave the kindly firefighter a bogus reason for why she'd been naked in the first place). Another fireman had given her a cup of nice, hot coffee. That same fireman built a campfire so Theodora could stay warm.
When she was finally alone, Theodora sat and cried. She desperately wanted to be a sorceress, a dream she'd had as a little girl. Her family was well-known in sorcery circles; Theodora wanted to be part of that legacy. She'd been studying sorcery via an online academy. She was making good progress in her sorcery studies, and she'd reached the point where she needed to summon a demon.
Theodora thought she'd done the necessary prep work for a summoning correctly. It turned out, though, she'd inadvertently erased part of the pentagram used in the summoning process. The demon Theodora summoned noticed the erasure and, being upset about being summoned in the first place, took full advantage of Theodora's carelessness. The demon sneeringly berated Theodora for her rookie mistake, set Theodora's house on fire, called Theodora some rude names, and returned to its hellish home.
Theodora dried her tears, stood up, and began the process of starting anew. First things first, though. Theodora recited a spell for decent clothes and sensible shoes.
