TI don't want to sound condescending, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but on the west coast you mostly have to deal with dry heat, I think.
In western Europe, it's mostly the humidity that makes the heat unbearable.
Even though it was 'only' 35°C where I live, the high humidity makes it so your sweat doesn't evaporate from your skin.
This essentially means that your body has no way to cool down on it's own.
This will result in a very suffocating feeling that could be comparable with up to 55°C of dry heat.
(In freedom units that's 95°F and 131°F respectively. 😉)
Then add in the fact that like 90% of homes over here in the Netherlands or the UK don't have an AC unit, because it's only needed like 1.5 weeks a year, and you get a recipe for disaster where lots of people actually die from the heat! 💀
Like I said before, I don't want to assume anything, but I just wanted to clarify the situation. ☺️
(So you can feel more sorry for us or something. 😂)
