Why have we never visited?” “Because it took ten hours,” Tara said, voice teasing. “Not that you noticed. You were dead to the world the whole way.” “Sorry. First decent sleep I’ve had in weeks. Credit to your driving, I guess.” Just before they reached the city limits the car's navigation started acting up. “Connection lost? Great. Please help me look, Ankha. She said the academy has a huge clock tower.” After more than an hour of circling, they finally spotted it. They parked and walked toward the imposing building, stopping under the carved sign. “College of the Magical Arts,” Ankha read. “That explains why you never told me what she studies. You sure this is a good idea?” “No turning back now.” Inside they found a vast library hall. Ankha looked around, disappointed. “I expected something more… magical? This just looks like a regular library.” Tara ignored the comment and asked for directions to the dorms. Soon they stood in front of a red door marked 'R. Caldwell'. Tara knocked. The door drifted open. “Runie? We’re here!” No answer. They stepped inside. Shelves full of glass bottles with brightly colored liquids lined the walls. “Are all of these magic potions?” Ankha whispered. “Don’t touch anything. We have no idea what they do.” Ankha wandered anyway—until a small green slime bounced into view on a desk. “Tara, look! He’s adorable!” She poked it gently. The slime jiggled happily. “I JUST said don’t touch anything! It could be dangerous!” “Dangerous? This cutey?” Ankha kept poking. “Maybe we should leave a note and come back later.” As Tara reached for a pen, the door creaked again. A girl in a purple witch outfit stood in the doorway. “RUNIE!” “TARA!” They collided in a tight hug. “How were exams?” “Mostly fine—I’ll explain later. You’re over an hour late. I thought you’d gotten lost inside the acadamy, so I went looking.” “My navigation died the second we hit the city. We had to find this place the hard way.” “That tracks. Tech’s been acting weird lately. Something in the air, maybe.” Runie turned to Ankha with a bright smile. “And you must be Ankha. Nice to meet you! I see you’ve already made friends with Gooey. He’s usually shy around strangers.” “Hi, Runie. Thanks for having us. So the little guy's name is Gooey, huh?” At the sound of his name the slime launched itself off the desk. Ankha yelped, stumbled backward, and crashed into a shelf. A purple bottle tipped and poured its contents over her. Purple smoke exploded outward. When it cleared, Ankha’s ears and tail were gone. Her fur had vanished. She stared at her suddenly smooth, human hands in horror. “What—where are my ears? My tail? My FUR?” Runie clapped a hand over her mouth. “Don’t panic! I have a reverse potion somewhere—Oh, why don’t I ever label these?” She scrambled through bottles. “Orange? No, that's for underwater breathing… Maybe this white one?" She snifs at the bottle and her face quickly sours. "Nope! That's the milk I forgot to finish last week—ugh—aha!” She grabbed a round yellow flask and spun around. As she started to walk over to Ankha, her foot caught the carpet and she pitched forward. The bottle flew from her hand and smashed square in Tara’s face. Yellow smoke bloomed. When it faded, Tara stood transformed into a full lioness-girl—mane, tail, claws, and all. Ankha took one look and burst into helpless laughter, tears streaming down her face. “It even took your clothes! That expression when the bottle hit your face was priceless!” Tara’s ears flattened. She turned to Runie, who was still searching the floor for her glasses. “Runie, are any of these potions dangerous?” “N-no! We’re not allowed to keep harmful ones in the dorms, but—” “That's all I needed to know.” Tara seized an open red potion and flung it at Ankha. Red smoke erupted. Ankha emerged as a scarlet demongirl. And now her clothes were gone too. “Hey! That was on purpose!” “You think? Not so funny now, is it?” Tara grabbed another bottle and dumped it over herself. Blue smoke swirled; she became a sleek water sprite. The two of them stalked toward each other, already arguing about whose fault the whole mess was. Runie finally found her glasses, stood up, and surveyed the chaos of the spilled potions, and the two furious, transformed girls in the middle of her dorm room. She let out a long, weary sigh. A group dressed in black gathered around a modest tombstone. Some leaned on one another for comfort, while others stood in rigid silence. The heavy rain nearly drowned out the soft whimpers of a pregnant young woman wearing a black veil. Even a few higher beings had come to mourn the loss of BetterWaifu’s greatest close-up artist. They were saying goodbye to BlackHairedStudent. His death was an unfortunate accident during the latest police raid on his basement—his stuffing had to be collected from throughout the entire building’s air ducts. One lonely figure watched from afar beneath an old oak, disappointment clear on her face. “Stupid Black,” she muttered. “You were supposed to bring me ultimate despair. I was a fool to think you could succeed where so many others failed.” She turned and disappeared into the shadows. The group lingered until a blinding flash lit up the sky, followed by roaring thunder. A muffled sound came from the grave. Suddenly a blue flame erupted from the soil, growing into wild cackling laughter. Black’s ghost emerged from the flames, floating above his tombstone. “Who gave you permission to throw such a boring funeral for me?!” he boomed with a wide grin. “Was it you, my sweet little Nagatoro?” She stared back in shock. “If my funeral is going to be made into a post, it should at least feature panty shots!” He snapped his ghostly paws. A strong wind tore through the cemetery. The centipede girl tried to hold her dress down in vain as it flew up. Nagatoro didn’t even resist—the wind revealed she wore nothing underneath, exposing her pregnant belly and bare pussy. Black’s expression softened. “Y-you remembered our promise?” “Of course, you stupid bear!” A tearful smile broke through her sorrow. “I just never thought I’d have to honor it at your funeral. I promise to keep this power in check!” “Don’t think of this as goodbye, my friend. I’ll be watching from above—keep everyone entertained! Please tell Nagatoro I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise. Watch over her for me. She cared more than she let on. Oh, and if you ever meet the frogman, tell him I'm sorry as well. I'm very grateful to him for giving me a final chance." He faded into the light as my consciousness slipped away. “…you guys! I think he’s waking up!” I opened my eyes to Ankha’s tear-streaked face hovering above mine. Just as she began to think she was alone, a flicker of movement caught her eye in the corner. Ankha spun around. A swarm of eerie, pale hands was crawling toward her—from the floor, the walls, even the ceiling. The horrifying image of that black-and-white bear flashed through her mind. She turned to run, but the hands were faster. One clamped around her ankle, yanking her off balance. She hit the ground hard, and more hands immediately seized her arms, legs, and torso. “No… let me go!” she tried to scream, but only a choked whimper escaped. The hands rolled her onto her back, pinning her down as several fingers crept toward her face. They forced their way into her mouth just as she finally managed to let out a blood-curdling scream. Ankha jolted awake, her own scream still echoing in her ears. She was drenched in cold sweat, tears streaming down her cheeks. Before she could even catch her breath, a sharp knock sounded at her bedroom door. “Ankha? Ankha!” Tara’s worried voice called from the hallway. “Is everything okay? We heard a scream!” With trembling hands, Ankha opened the door. Tara and her brother Terror2 stood there, both looking alarmed. The moment Tara saw Ankha’s tear-streaked face and shaking body, she stepped forward and pulled her into a tight hug. “You’re okay… you’re safe,” Tara whispered, rubbing her back gently. Terror2 lingered awkwardly in the doorway. “What happened? Is she hurt?” Tara shot him a firm look over Ankha’s shoulder and jerked her head toward the hall, silently telling him to leave. He opened his mouth to protest, but after a moment he sighed. “Alright… I’ll be in my room if you need me.” He closed the door quietly behind him. Ankha clung to Tara, her sobs slowly easing. When she finally pulled back a little, Tara guided her over to the bed and sat beside her. “Talk to me,” Tara said softly. “What was it this time?” Ankha wiped her eyes with a shaky breath. “It’s the same nightmare again… that horrible basement. There were hands everywhere—coming out of the walls, the floor… They grabbed me and I couldn’t get away. And that bear… it always feels so real. I haven’t slept properly in weeks, Tara. I don’t know what to do anymore.” “Oh, Ankha…” Tara’s voice was full of sympathy. She squeezed her friend’s hand. “I wish I could make them stop. Have you tried anything that might help?” “Nothing works,” Ankha whispered, her voice cracking again. “I’m so tired…” Tara thought for a moment, then brightened. “Wait—I have a friend who might be able to help with this kind of thing. I’ll send her a message right now.” She started to stand, but Ankha quickly grabbed her wrist. “Please… don’t go,” she begged, eyes wide with fear. “Just stay with me a little longer.” Tara paused, then smiled gently. “I was only going to grab my phone from my room… but it can wait until morning.” She glanced at the bed. “Is there room for me here too?” Ankha’s face softened with relief. She nodded quickly. “There’s plenty of space. Thank you so much, Tara. You’re the best friend I could ever ask for.” The two girls talked quietly for a while longer—about lighter things, silly memories, and anything that might chase the darkness away—until they eventually drifted off side by side. This time, Ankha found herself floating in a sea of soft pink clouds. Everything felt warm and gentle. Without even thinking, beautiful wings sprouted from her back, and she soared through the fluffy sky. All the fear from her earlier nightmare had vanished completely. For the first time in weeks, she felt safe and at peace—all thanks to her best friend Tara. — To be continued — Thank you all for reading! I really struggled to put a sexy scene in this chapter of Ankha's story. I didn't want it to feel forced, so in the end all I could do was add in a nice ending image. I walk over to her and visually inspect her; fortunately, she doesn't seem to have any external injuries or to have done anything to herself. It must have an emotional cause. I sit down beside her on the bed and gently pull her into an embrace. I caress over her hair and speak soothingly to her. We remain like this for a few minutes until she finally notices me. Akiko: Hey, it’s good that you’re back here. Ankha: A... ki... ko...? Her voice cracks; I have to be careful she doesn't slip back into a state of shock. Akiko: Shhhh, everything is fine, sweetie.
