Jerome noticed her immediately, offering a calm smile as he wiped down the counter. “Didn’t expect to see you here alone tonight.” Lois tilted her head, returning the look with quiet confidence. “Sometimes it’s nice to change the routine.” One drink turned into two, their conversation drifting from casual jokes to something more personal—shared looks, small pauses, a growing awareness of each other that neither of them rushed to interrupt. Jerome leaned in slightly when he spoke, his voice lower now, and Lois didn’t pull away. If anything, she matched his energy, her posture relaxed but intentional. By the time they stepped outside, the night air felt charged.
