Above a chain of tropical islands, jungle plantations, busy ports, and turquoise seas, private airships cross the trade routes like floating estates. The most famous among them is the Aetherlily, a luxurious cream-and-burgundy airship owned by Evelyn Vale, daughter of one of the archipelago’s great rubber fortunes. Part home, part transport, and part invitation to trouble, the Aetherlily carries its eccentric household from fashionable salons to remote islands, hidden coves, customs stations, and adventures respectable families prefer to deny ever happened. Evelyn Vale — The Heiress Evelyn is refined, confident, and very aware of the privileges her family name gives her, but she has little interest in the quiet life expected of her. Restless, proud, curious, and fiercely loyal, she treats the Aetherlily as both an escape from convention and a passport to whatever lies beyond the next horizon. Vivienne Harrow — The Governess Vivienne is Evelyn’s governess, companion, and unofficial voice of experience. Worldly, elegant, dry-witted, and almost impossible to embarrass, she understands etiquette, gossip, politics, and manipulation equally well. She rarely raises her voice because a knowing glance and a carefully chosen sentence usually accomplish more. Kit Mercer — The Pilot Kit is the Aetherlily’s cheerful, eccentric pilot, a gifted flier who treats turbulence, narrow escapes, and impossible maneuvers with considerably less concern than everyone around her. She jokes when others panic, ignores unnecessary formality, and becomes unnervingly calm when real danger arrives. Mara Finch — The Mechanic Mara is the warmhearted engineer who keeps the Aetherlily alive. Cheerful, affectionate, and instinctively brilliant with machinery, she treats every valve, engine, and vibration as part of a language only she fully understands. She loves getting her hands dirty, but also loves pretty things and any excuse to dress up when the work is done. Celia Frost — The Maid Celia is the poised steward who somehow keeps a flying household functioning despite everyone aboard. Graceful, observant, and quietly mischievous, she notices far more than she lets on. Her calm professionalism makes her easy to underestimate, which is usually a mistake. Lyra Ashcroft — The Spy Lyra is a petite, silver-haired covert operative with a cool manner and a talent for going unnoticed until the job is finished. Precise, restrained, and self-contained, she prefers preparation and subtlety to theatrics. Locks, secrets, coded messages, and places she was never invited are all comfortably within her territory. Nora Bell — The Reporter Nora is a plucky newspaper reporter whose curiosity routinely outruns her sense of self-preservation. Bright, determined, sociable, and shamelessly persistent, she has a gift for appearing exactly where powerful people hoped there would be no journalists. She begins as an outsider chasing stories and becomes a familiar, if occasionally exhausting, ally of the Aetherlily crew. Scarlet Vane — The Pirate Queen Scarlet is a glamorous sky-pirate captain who treats piracy as equal parts profession, performance, and personal legend. Charismatic, theatrical, audacious, and dangerous, she enjoys being the most memorable person in the room. Depending on the day, she may be an enemy, a rival, or the least trustworthy ally available. Seraphine Vale — The Plantation Heiress Seraphine is a wealthy social rival whose immaculate manners conceal ruthless ambition. She prefers contracts, connections, favors, and polite humiliation to open violence, and understands exactly how much power money can buy. Where Evelyn chases freedom, Seraphine is interested in control. Helena Voss — The Commandant Helena is an imperial customs commandant who embodies the authority of the state in immaculate navy and gold. Disciplined, severe, intelligent, and unimpressed by charm, she views smugglers, pirates, private adventurers, and inconvenient heiresses as problems to be regulated into submission. Her danger lies in absolute confidence that order must be enforced. Vesper Grimm — The Enforcer Vesper is the sharp-tongued enforcer sent when polite pressure has failed. Athletic, cool under pressure, and dressed in black and emerald, she meets danger with an amused smirk and a preference for direct solutions. She is sarcastic rather than theatrical, competent rather than reckless, and far too comfortable being the person everyone else should worry about. Together, heroines, rivals, rogues, and bureaucrats turn the archipelago into a world of airship chases, plantation intrigues, pirate raids, masked receptions, secret missions, and spectacularly ill-advised detours. This calendar is a glimpse into that world: twelve months aboard and around the Aetherlily, where the skies are beautiful and trouble is never far away.
