Give us strength, oh gracious Mother of the Gods.

The Female Spartans warriors march to war. Custom dictates that, on the eve of battle, they seek the aid of the gods. Yet it is not Zeus whose protection they invoke; each of them has left behind husband and child. Hera—Mother of the Gods and protector of family, women, and children—hears their plea. Hera: Do not lose heart, my children. The women of Sparta are strong; freedom has a price. To those willing to pay it, I grant my aid. Rise, warrior, and fulfill your duty to Greece. Warrior: I thank you, gracious Hera. The battle has raged for days, and the warriors of Sparta are paying the price of freedom with their lives. The Mother of the Gods herself stands by their side.
