We’re making good progress—not much longer now, and then... "Did you hear that just now?" Terror asks. "What do you mean?" I look at his face, puzzled. "I swear I heard someone whimpering..." It’s these corridors—they... wait, now I hear it too... "There it is again... it’s coming from over there..." Terror points in the direction the whimpering is coming from. "Do you think we should..." I try to hide the tremor in my voice. He nods silently, and we move toward the sound. After a few minutes, we reach an intersection where several corridors converge. In one of them, a young woman sits on the floor. She’s pretty—blonde hair, amber-colored eyes—and she’s wearing a black coat. She seems to be in some kind of trance, as she doesn’t notice us. Just as I’m about to speak to her... "Why... why... am I... so... ugly?" she sobs. We exchange a confused look; her voice is enchanting. "You aren’t ugly," I blurt out. Terror stares at me, stunned, as if I’ve just made a terrible mistake. "Am... I... beautiful?" she asks. "Yes," I reply. At that, she tilts her head back and stares up at the ceiling. Terror grabs my arm. "She gives me the creeps—let’s get out of here!" "We can’t just leave her here alone." I whispered, my muscles beginning to stiffen as she started to giggle. "I... am... beautiful..." she murmured, giggling repeatedly. Slowly, she took off her coat and tossed it carelessly aside, still giggling. Beneath it, she wore a black tank top and red panties. The angle of her head was unnatural, and those eyes—only now did I notice the void within them. She stared at me as if peering deep into my soul, shaking me to my very core. Terror pointed to a hole in her tank top, revealing... her exposed ribcage... Mechanical parts were shifting inside. She wasn't human. "I... am... beautiful..." her words cut through the silence as she straightened up, more and more skin flaking away from her. I swallowed hard, watching the skin on her arms and legs stretch and tear apart with every movement. I couldn't tear my gaze from what lay beneath; what I saw shook me to the very depths of my being. "I... am... beautiful..." Slowly, she reached a hand out toward us, madness etched across her face. As she moved in our direction, I finally regained control of my own body; I grabbed Terror’s arm, snapping him out of his paralyzed shock. "I... am... beautiful..." Those words... with every step, more of her mechanical interior was revealed. We ran as fast as we could; just before turning a corner, I glanced back one last time... "I... am... beautiful..." Nothing remained of her former beauty... I can understand that; I felt the same way before making the decision. But I hadn't really created many action scenes up to that point. I’ve made up for that now, though 😁—but maybe he can still be won over 😘 What did do?
