Twenty minutes later, she emerges onto a quiet dark street. Night has settled over the city. Lyra walks three blocks beneath flickering streetlamps until she reaches an old apartment building squeezed between two newer towers. Its stone façade is stained by decades of rain, its entrance narrow and unremarkable. She pushes through the heavy door and crosses the deserted lobby, presses the highest button... The elevator groans upward. Four. Seven. Ten. Twelve. With every floor, something in her changes. The shy girl who spent the afternoon avoiding people's gazes seems to disappear somewhere between the floors. Ding. The elevator stops. Lyra steps into a narrow service corridor, climbs the final flight of stairs, and pushes open a steel door. Cold night air rushes toward her. A sleek black superhero outfit hugs her silhouette, practical and almost entirely matte, broken only by subtle dark-blue details that catch the city lights. Her dark-blue ponytail spills freely behind her now, dancing in the wind. She walks to the edge of the roof. The girl who couldn't look a stranger in the eye stands twelve floors above the street and calmly looks down at the entire city. A siren wails somewhere in the distance. Her eyes narrow behind the mask. By daylight, she is Lyra — the quiet emo girl in the back of the room, hood up, headphones around her neck, hoping nobody will notice her. I have a reverse potion somewhere—Oh, why don’t I ever label these?” She scrambled through bottles. “Orange? No, that's for underwater breathing… Maybe this white one?" She snifs at the bottle and her face quickly sours. "Nope! That's the milk I forgot to finish last week—ugh—aha!” She grabbed a round yellow flask and spun around. As she started to walk over to Ankha, her foot caught the carpet and she pitched forward. The bottle flew from her hand and smashed square in Tara’s face. Yellow smoke bloomed. When it faded, Tara stood transformed into a full lioness-girl—mane, tail, claws, and all. Pearl sits down quietly in a large conference room. “As most of you know by now, we have a new poison polluting our streets. We believe a gangster that goes by the alias ‘Kokoroto’ was the one who started smuggling them through Waifu Bay. Many more have followed on his footsteps. They are known in the underworld as the ‘NyanNyan’ band and they keep smuggling in catgirls and offering them on the White Market.” Pictures are shown on a large screen. Please come in. How are you?” - “Not good. I’m still in shock with… the images I just…” - “I know, I’ve seen them. They had us working extra hours the last couple of weeks.” Pearl knows the drill so without even asking she starts taking her clothes off. - “How can people do something like that?” - “I don’t know Jennings. But I also want HornyTown to be a safe place. That’s why I joined the Force”. - “Barry, help me catch those bastards!” - “I will do everything in my power to help you get those bastards.
