There is a spirit born of this land

A spirit brought forth in a declaration

To witness a battle for independence

And to behold a newly-birthed nation.

There is a spirit born of this land

That saw a seething anger erupt

Which tore the nation asunder

Moving the spirit to bitter tears.

There is a spirit born of this land

That looks upon gloom and despair

Yet senses signs of hope and promise

That the land will endure and abide.
