Dawn and Henry at the Valentine's party, part 9

The soft gurgle of the coffee maker pulls Emily out of her sleep. For a second, she doesn't remember where she is until the familiar scent of him on the pillow brings it back. She pads out of his room barefoot, still half-asleep, and finds him in the kitchen. The smell of coffee and toast makes the apartment feel warmer than usual. "Good morning! You look cute when you are sleepy." Henry says to her. A small, sleepy smile curves her mouth. She stretches and lets out a yawn. Without answering, she walks to him, slides her arms around his waist, and presses her face into his chest for a moment. The warm hug makes something soft and happy flutter in her stomach. She tips her face up, eyes still a little hazy. He cups her her cheek with his hand, thumb brushing lightly along the edge of her jaw. She leans into the touch without thinking. When he closes the distance, she meets him halfway. The kiss is slow, gentle, and unhurried. No urgency, no performance. Just soft lips, the faint taste of each other, and the quiet realization that this feels right even though they don't know what it means yet. Her fingers curl lightly into the fabric of his shirt as he pulls her in from the waist. When they finally part, their foreheads rest together for a second longer. Her voice barely above a whisper. "That felt right." "It felt right to me too, Emily" [THE END]
