Oh, here: Something inside me whispered, “Don't let them in.”

I stared at the two bunny girls. One had pink ears. The other had black ones. Both were smiling.

“Wait a minute,” I said. “Aren't you supposed to be giving candy to the kids?”

“We are!” giggled the pink bunny.

“Then why are you at my door?”

The black bunny tilted her head.

“Because you're on our list.”

“What list?”

“The naughty list!” they squealed together.

“Ha! Wrong holiday, girls. Santa comes in December!”

Their smiles grew wider. Then the bowl rattled again.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

From inside... WTF!!!

I stepped back.

“What's in there?”

“Candy!” said the pink bunny. “Mostly,” whispered the black one.

Suddenly, something small and pale reached over the edge of the bowl. I slammed the door.

Silence. Then came a soft scratching sound. Not from outside.

From inside my house...

So, when you hear the roar of a chainsaw or the scraping of an axe on a stone pavement on Halloween, and you live on this street, don't ever open the door.
