I've got my flashlight, and there's nobody here, she whispered to herself. Slowly, she made her way down the stairs. The hallway was empty. She checked the kitchen. The bathroom. The living room and the guest room, too. Inside the closets. Behind the curtains. Under every bed. Nothing. Yet every time she turned around, the darkness seemed to move. A tall, shadowy figure stood silently behind her. Always... A woman's silhouette. Two faint, amber eyes. But whenever the girl turned her flashlight toward it, there was only darkness. She searched every corner. Every room. Every hiding place. Until she finally returned to her bedroom. Exhausted, she sat on the bed, clutching her flashlight. There's nobody here, she whispered. Then, from somewhere behind her, a woman's voice whispered back: I know. I've been looking for you, too. The flashlight flickered. Once... Twice... Then went out.
