🪶 HARPY – THE RULER OF THE SKIES

🪶 Race: Harpy (Birdfolk)

🏛️ Origin: Greek Mythology

⚠️ Danger Level: II–IV – Low to Very Dangerous (depending on the subspecies)

🌿 Habitat:

High mountains, steep cliffs, dense forests, tropical jungles, coastal regions, and remote islands. Their preferred habitat depends on the particular bird subspecies.

🍖 Diet:

Primarily carnivorous or omnivorous. Their diet ranges from fish, insects, and small mammals to larger prey. Some subspecies also consume fruits, seeds, and ordinary human food.

⚔️ Strengths:

• Excellent flying abilities and high speed
• Exceptionally sharp eyesight and keen hearing
• Powerful talons for grabbing and hunting
• Surprise attacks from great heights
• Excellent sense of direction
• High agility and quick reflexes
• Intelligence and advanced hunting instincts

🛡️ Weaknesses:

• Large wings make movement difficult in confined spaces.
• Wing injuries can severely impair their ability to fly.
• Extreme weather conditions can be dangerous.
• Many subspecies are less agile on the ground.
• Long-distance flights require considerable energy.
• Damaged or waterlogged feathers can reduce flight performance.

🪺 Social Behavior:

Species-dependent – solitary, pair-bonded, group-living, or communal.

A Harpy's social behavior largely depends on her bird subspecies. While Eagle and Falcon Harpies generally live alone or in pairs, Raven Harpies may form close family bonds and complex social groups.

Highly social Harpies, such as Swallow and Seagull Harpies, can establish large colonies with their own hierarchies, traditions, and rules.

Some of these communities inhabit impressive settlements built along steep cliffs or within the canopies of enormous trees.

💜 Behavior:

Harpies are considered intelligent, observant, and freedom-loving creatures. Their temperament varies depending on their subspecies and individual personality. Some are proud and territorial, while others are curious, playful, or remarkably sociable.

Not every Harpy considers humans enemies. Some avoid contact entirely, while others develop peaceful relationships with humans and even engage in trade.

Bird-of-Paradise Harpies are particularly known for being vain, charming, and exceptionally confident. They love displaying their magnificent plumage and impressing potential partners with elaborate courtship dances.

However, anyone complimenting such a lady should be careful. Some Harpies may interpret admiration as an invitation to courtship. And once you've caught her attention, getting away might prove surprisingly difficult. 😏

✨ Special Characteristics:

Harpies possess a predominantly human upper body, large feathered wings, and bird-like legs equipped with powerful talons. Depending on the subspecies, their wings may replace their arms or grow as an additional pair from their backs.

Their plumage, wingspan, body size, and physical abilities are largely determined by their bird subspecies.

This results in an extraordinary variety of Harpies, ranging from small, agile Swallow Harpies to enormous Eagle Harpies and nearly silent Owl Harpies.

Some subspecies possess remarkable abilities. Owl Harpies can fly almost silently, Raven Harpies demonstrate astonishing problem-solving skills, and Bird-of-Paradise Harpies are famous for their magnificent courtship dances.

Harpies lay eggs and prefer building their nests in difficult-to-reach locations. Depending on the subspecies, their young are raised by individual breeding pairs or collectively within the community.

📜 Researcher's Note:

"Harpies are fascinating creatures whose beauty should never be underestimated. During my observations, a Bird-of-Paradise Harpy performed an impressive courtship dance right in front of me.

When I politely applauded, she apparently interpreted it as acceptance. Ever since, she has been visiting my camp regularly and bringing me gifts.

I fear I may have accidentally gotten engaged." 😏
