📖 BESTIARIUM – ENTRY 006
🟢 SLIME – THE LIVING MASS OF SLIME
🟢 Race: Slime (Slime Creatures / Gelatinous Beings)
🏛️ Origin: Modern fantasy literature, role-playing games, and video games, inspired by older concepts of amorphous and shapeshifting creatures.
⚠️ Danger Level: I–III – Low to high (depending on subspecies, size, composition, and aggression).
🌿 Habitat:
Damp forests, caves, swamps, sewers, underground dungeons, ruins, and bodies of water.
Slimes are extremely adaptable creatures. While ordinary slimes prefer moist environments, certain subspecies can also survive in deserts, frozen regions, or volcanic areas.
🍖 Diet:
Slimes are primarily omnivorous and feed by absorbing and decomposing organic matter.
Their diet includes dead plants, fungi, carrion, insects, and small animals. Some species can also absorb minerals, metals, or magical energy.
Digestion occurs through enzymes within their gelatinous bodies. Indigestible materials are expelled afterward.
⚔️ Strengths:
- Amorphous and extremely flexible bodies
- Ability to squeeze through the smallest openings
- Resistance to blunt-force attacks
- Absorption and decomposition of organic materials
- Regeneration of minor injuries
- Excellent camouflage within their surroundings
- Ability to immobilize enemies by engulfing them
- Certain subspecies possess poisonous or corrosive properties
- Some species can split into smaller slimes
🛡️ Weaknesses:
- Often vulnerable to dehydration
- Extreme temperatures can damage their bodies
- Certain chemicals can destabilize their structure
- Ordinary species have limited movement speed
- Fire can dry out water-rich slimes
- Severe cold can restrict their mobility
- Damage to or destruction of a body core, if present, can be fatal
🧬 Subspecies:
Common Slime: The most widespread variety. Usually small, weak, and relatively passive. Primarily feeds on organic remains.
Water Slime: Contains an exceptionally high percentage of water and prefers lakes, rivers, and damp caves.
Poison Slime: Produces toxic substances that can cause health problems through physical contact or ingestion.
Acid Slime: Possesses particularly aggressive digestive enzymes capable of dissolving organic materials and certain metals.
Elemental Slime: Rare variants whose bodies are influenced by magical elements such as fire, ice, or electricity.
King Slime: Unusually large specimens that often develop from particularly old slimes or through the fusion of several individuals.
🐾 Social Behavior:
Social behavior strongly depends on the subspecies.
Common slimes often live solitary lives but may gather in large numbers in areas with abundant food.
Some species form colonies in which numerous individuals coexist peacefully.
Certain intelligent slimes are even capable of communicating with one another and forming simple communities.
❤️ Reproduction and Offspring:
Most slimes reproduce asexually through division.
Once an individual has accumulated sufficient mass and energy, it can split its body into two independent slimes.
The newly formed individuals grow by consuming food and gradually develop further.
In rare subspecies, multiple slimes can merge to form a larger creature.
🧠 Intelligence:
Common slimes usually possess very limited intelligence and act primarily on instinct.
More advanced subspecies, however, can learn, recognize their surroundings, and develop simple strategies.
Particularly rare specimens may possess human-like intelligence, understand spoken language, and reproduce complex body shapes.
📜 Special Characteristics:
In many fantasy worlds, slimes are considered harmless beginner-level enemies. Nevertheless, they fulfill an important ecological role by decomposing dead organic matter and cleaning their environment.
Their bodies often have a semi-transparent appearance and can display various colors. These depend on their subspecies, diet, or the substances they have absorbed.
Not all slimes are hostile. Some individuals display curious or even friendly behavior toward other living beings.
Particularly intelligent slimes can learn to imitate human or animal forms. However, such abilities are extremely rare and are not typical characteristics of ordinary slimes.
Despite their simple appearance, their potential danger should not be underestimated. Poisonous or acidic specimens, in particular, can pose a serious threat to unprepared travelers.
