To give some context to the phone call:

I won't lie, I was more than a little bit jealous of the reaction that the mere mention of Octavian got from them. But I am a man of my word, so I called Octavian and told him she gave the OK.

Ankha really wanted this date to go perfectly, so she and Tara planned everything out meticulously. They wouldn't give me any of the details, but I think they made a reservation at some fancy café and bought tickets for a movie. They even went shopping for new swimsuits, so I think the date will involve a trip to either the beach or a swimming pool.

Luckily for their date, the weather will be a lot nicer tomorrow than it is today. I don't think I've seen it rain this bad in years...

Oh well, that's about all the time I have for now. I need to get going before I miss my chance to make a good first impression on Cassie!

A group dressed in black gathered around a modest tombstone.
Some leaned on one another for comfort, while others stood in rigid silence.
The heavy rain nearly drowned out the soft whimpers of a pregnant young woman wearing a black veil.
Even a few higher beings had come to mourn the loss of BetterWaifu’s greatest close-up artist.

They were saying goodbye to BlackHairedStudent.

His death was an unfortunate accident during the latest police raid on his basement—his stuffing had to be collected from throughout the entire building’s air ducts.

One lonely figure watched from afar beneath an old oak, disappointment clear on her face.
“Stupid Black,” she muttered.
“You were supposed to bring me ultimate despair.
I was a fool to think you could succeed where so many others failed.”
She turned and disappeared into the shadows.

The group lingered until a blinding flash lit up the sky, followed by roaring thunder.
A muffled sound came from the grave.
Suddenly a blue flame erupted from the soil, growing into wild cackling laughter.
Black’s ghost emerged from the flames, floating above his tombstone.

“Who gave you permission to throw such a boring funeral for me?!” he boomed with a wide grin.
“Was it you, my sweet little Nagatoro?”
She stared back in shock.

A strong wind tore through the cemetery.

Black sat there with his back turned.
“I never meant for any of this to happen,” he said quietly.

“Why tell it to me… why now?” Asks Pearl.
“When I’m done telling you my story, you will understand”

Madame Li leans back, drops the gaze and inhales deeply, as someone who is about to take a deep dive.
“I was born in a little village far from any big city in China. My mother died when I was very little so I have no memories of her. I was raised by my father who taught me everything he knew about martial arts and life. He was a single father and a well respected leader of the community, so the only way he knew of raising me was through martial arts and discipline”
“There is no training the body without training the mind!!” He used to say.
“Get up on those books and read to me. Keep your balance AND DON’T DROP THE WATER!!!!!” Madame Li laughs.
“Those were his favorite words for me: Higher! Faster! Higher! Faster! — AGAIN!!”
“I never though he was being to harsh, I knew he was preparing me.
“I told the whole village I was gonna be the greatest warrior who ever lived. I told them they were looking at a legend (smiles) they all laughed and cheered me up. (Li takes a pause) “This little skinny girl… I’ll show them all” I thought.

Detective Pearl has been listening closely. Li is lost in her memories.
“My village was very prosperous town. Soil was rich and the people were hard working folk. And like many places like that, mean people took advantage of all the riches the land has to offer. A group of ill-intentioned people were abusing the town, sucking on the people’s labor for their own benefit. My father was a big leader in the community and was fighting against them”
“One night, they broke into the house, I heard muffled voices and sounds, a struggle. I was scared. Then silence again. After a while I decided to go to my father’s room. (A pause) And that was the last time I saw him. Or... what was left of him, inside a basket, with a note to the people of the town”
