“I’m telling you Ruine, I can't find anything out of the ordinary.” Valerie said. She let out a sigh and stamped her foot in frustration. “I know something weird is going on, but no one else seems to know anything.”
“It has been over twenty-four hours…” Runie trailed off for a moment while she thought through the possibilities. “Maybe we really did hallucinate.”
“You and I both know stranger things have happened.”
“Fair.” Runie twirled her hair as she talked. “I was wondering if I should use my magic to try and solve it, but after last time I tried to scry I’m kinda scared.”
“No, no, we don't need you teleporting anyone’s car into a tree again. That was impossible to explain to the police. You're lucky you never left any fingerprints.”
Runie’s voice lit up. “Oh, I know! Why don't try yelling ‘we can hear you!’ into the sky tonight!”
Runie could feel Valerie rolling her eyes from the other end of the phone call.
“Great idea. We can write letters and throw them into the sky as paper airplanes too while we’re at it.”
“That sound's fun, actually.”
Valerie sighed. “I don't think the other club members will go for it. That's more of…”
“What's up?”
“Hold on, I thought I heard something weird.”
Valerie looked around, but the alley the sound had come from was empty.
“Hello?” No response came. “Do you mind, I’m on a call.” She said, more to calm her nerves than anything else.
“Anyway, where was I… Ah right the-” *rustle* *thud*
Runie listened for a second, but the line was silent. “Val? Val?! Are you okay?”
But the other end of the line was silent.
It took thirty minutes for Runie to use Valerie’s location tag to track her phone’s location, but all she found was the phone tossed into the corner of the alley with no sign of her friend anywhere.
