What is it about earth what binds our souls to it…? It’s been almost 10 years since the war started. Earth as we know it is no more, it’s been ravaged and torn apart by bloody conflict. We don’t live on the surface anymore, we live among the stars in giant space colonies while the war goes on below. Who knows if we’ll ever be able to return… some of us have never seen the sea, the real sea. Some of us have never climbed a real tree, or felt an actual breeze; some of us probably never will. We’ve been deprived of so many things because of the war… and it’s all because of Nectar. Some time ago, scientists discovered a new natural resource that they named Nectar. Nectar was unlike anything they had seen before, capable of storing energy and powering things better than anything that came before. After its discovery, discussions began on how to use this new resource; that’s when the divide started. Some of the world’s leaders wanted to use it for humanitarian efforts to help with the betterment of mankind. Other very influential leaders saw its potential in economic and militaristic growth and wanted each nation to have its own unregulated usage of Nectar. Before long, the Union divided in two. On one side were those that favored the humanitarian approach, known as the United Earth Alliance. Those that opted for the other side became the National Separatist Federation. The nations that comprised the NSF left the Union and tensions grew steadily for some time. The UEA and the NSF started competing for Nectar, which eventually led to small fights and skirmishes for deposits. Little did we know at the time, things would get much worse. The UEA began their efforts using Nectar to make new medical technology, such as highly advanced prosthetics, surgical equipment, and many other things. They even began finding ways to take the population into space and launched the first ever space colony, which they named Eden. Meanwhile, the NSF did as they planned and began developing new weapons using Nectar as their power source. This led to the creation of the Cybers, powerful mechs that were unrivaled by anything seen at the time. One Cyber could destroy an entire fleet of ships all on its own. They were stronger, faster, and more durable than anything the UEA had. With the Cybers, the NSF believed they could easily take control of the earth’s Nectar supply by force. The world would not be the same afterwards. The NSF began seizing Nectar reservoirs all over the planet, forcing the UEA to retreat further and further until space was their only option. With their Cybers, the NSF chased them into the stars. And then it happened. During the battle, a nuclear warhead found its way to Eden and completely decimated the colony, taking the lives of everyone living in it. Countless civilian lives were lost and the devastation caused a ripple that would change everything. Seeing this as the final straw, the UEA committed everything they had to stopping the NSF at any cost. The tragedy of Eden lit the flame of war that would last until now. The UEA began developing their own Cybers and the tides of war have shifted. With the increasing devastation on the planet, the NSF built their own space colonies, and now Earth serves at the battleground for these two sides. The only ones living on Earth are those fighting the war, and the families of those who are leading the war efforts. Now, 10 years later, the conflict rages on with no end in sight. It’s entirely possible that we may never go back home to Earth. We may never see the sun rise and set with our own eyes. We might never feel the same pull of gravity we used to.
