It’s delicate and surprisingly light, despite the fact that its bloom does contain a generous amount of pale gold liquid. As you look back up, her face remains unreadable despite your best efforts. There’s still something unnerving about the intensity of her stare and the fullness of her smile. But the flower’s sweet scent is catching in your nose now and it calls to you to take a sip. Reluctantly, you pull your eyes away from the lady and down the flower’s offering like a shot of alcohol. It’s smooth. Light as air and just barely sweet. It glides across your tongue effortlessly, but it’s only after you swallow that you realize something has gone wrong. “What’s wrong?” The lady asks. Her voice echoes in your head like an earworm, digging its way deep into your mind. You look up to see her changed. Her eyes glow with a sinister light and her smile, tenuous in its sincerity, has shifted into an outright malevolent smirk. You try to speak, but the nectar has poisoned your throat and it’s all you can do to gasp out a questioning plea. “You humans are all the same,” she says. “One little temptation and you fall right in headfirst. No backbone, no willpower.” As she speaks, the forest begins to melt away. The trees evaporate into swirling clouds of green smoke that seem to stretch on forever even as they close you in. The dappled sunlight that made the meadow feel so warm and inviting twists into a demented halo behind the woman’s head. “I see the look in your eyes. You think I tricked you?” Her smirk deepens into gleeful contempt. “There was no lie. The nectar does promise a long life. A life spent in my realm, for you can now never leave this place.” You try to resist, but your feet refuse to budge. You look down to see the ground too has become nearly formless and root entangle your feet. Or, perhaps the roots are your feet. Nothing seems to make sense anymore. How much of this is nectar induced hallucinations, and how much is real? You watch as the woman grows additional arms, as new eyes flicker in and out of the smoke, as her hair begins to float. You can no longer see the ground. You can no longer feel your legs, or turn your neck. Your entire existence is now this moment, forever burned into your sight. “Was the temptation worth it?” She asks with a laugh that runs down your spine like ice water. “Now tell me, what should I do with you?” She leans forward, the new eye on her forehead staring into your soul. “Should I add you to the garden? Turn you into a gift for the fairies? Or maybe, I could give you another chance…” “Do you think you deserve it?” <Decision point - Do you nod yes, or no?> To be continued…'

You rushed into this decision, after all. You should have asked some questions, thought more carefully about the strange circumstances you found yourself in. Instead, you heard some magical promises and bought in hook line and sinker. The lady leans forward, studying you closely as she had before. Her extra arms dance around you, almost but not quite taking you in an extra big embrace. "What's this? Humility? Regret?". She laughs. "I had almost given up on you but perhaps you're the sort to rush in without thinking? A bit too eager to seize the prize but with enough self awareness to understand when you've transgressed?" She seems to ponder this for a moment. As she does, the world begins to close in around you even moreso than it already was. The smoke feels like it's going to choke you out and you almost feel claustrophobic, but with a small almost simple gesture, the lady dismisses the sensation entirely. The world slowly starts to resolidify. Even the lady's fearsome guise begins to slowly shift back towards the elegant form she had before you drank the nectar. "Very well. Maybe you will learn from your hasty decisions. I'm willing to let you learn from your mistakes." Her expression becomes very serious. "Nature isn't always so kind. The Law of the Woods normally allows for but a single misstep. But you seem sincere in your understanding. Remember this lesson well, human." The world around you begins to fade and for a moment you fear the psychedelic void is returning to trap you again. Instead, the world fades out completely until you are all alone in the darkness. Then, you feel it. The falling sensation. Faster and faster and faster through the void until the weightless sensation fills your gut and a spike of panic surges through your mind. Your eyes snap open. You find yourself staring at your own bedroom. Your own bedsheets. Had you fallen asleep? You were wearing your day clothes, and bright sunlight was streaming through the windows. Had it all been a dream? Had you passed out late last night and entered the strange woods in a drunken nightmare? The panic felt real, and if you tried you could swear that you could still feel the nectar on the back of your throat or smell the wildflowers of the forest meadow. But even as you tried to remember the details, they slipped away as all dreams do. "Hey, what's wrong?" a calm and gentle voice asked from beside you. Panic hit again. You lived alone. You had for some time... right? Your head felt like it was spinning again. A hand touched your arm. Soft. Delicate. Loving. Your wife's arm... right? What was her name again? You follow the sensation, you eyes turning to meet hers. A familiar face looks back at you. Loving, but concerned. It's softer than you remember. Kinder. There should have been a weight behind those eyes. The woman of your dreams stared back at you. "Don't worry. It was just a bad dream." She lifts the covers, exposing her breasts and a swath of smooth pale skin that begs to be touched. This was okay...right? You didn't have to live alone. You could accept this for what it was, even when something in the back of your mind was stil screaming about some dream you were already forgetting.
